She attended White Cloud School, Harrodsburg High, Campbellsville College, and the University of Kentucky, receiving her degrees from Eastern Kentucky State Teachers' College, now Eastern Kentucky University. By vocation and with great passion, she was a public school educator. Upon nomination by her former students, she was named a member of the Order of Kentucky Colonels, the state's highest honor, presented at one of the Shakertown School Reunions, an event she never missed. She loved seeing "her kids" and maintained contact with many former students for decades. Upon retirement in 1973, Mrs. Foster moved to Florida where she continued to aid schools and students as a volunteer while pursuing new interests, as well. She served as church organist for the Bushnell First United Methodist Church for nearly 20 years and was actively involved in United Methodist Women and continued to serve the church as its Membership Secretary until the time of her death.  Elisabeth Watts Hunter Abney GEIGER

GEIGER Elizabeth Watts Hunter Abney Jan 30 1898 Jan 11 2000
w/o Claude E, div
First husband, Mr Abney, died young

Orlando Sentinel, The ( FL ) - January 13, 2000
MRS. GEIGER, 2204 Vine St., Leesburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 11. She was a retired loan officer for First Federal Savings and Loan, Leesburg. She also was a former secretary for a former city manager of Leesburg and a writer for The Daily Commercial newspaper, Leesburg. Born in Orange Home, she was a lifelong resident of Central Florida. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Soroptimist Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors: daughter, Jeanne G. Meeler, Leesburg; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg.

Elisabeth Watts Hunter Abney Geiger - promoter and charter member of our Leesburg Heritage Society. Throughout her life Mrs. Geiger was interested in the histories of local persons and places.  She was considered the city's defacto historian.  She was the inspiration behind our society organizing in 1976.  In a news article in November 1973 she said," I guess the idea of a city historical society has been in my mind for 20 or 25 years,"  she explained, "but I finally decided this was the time to act."

Mrs. Geiger said she already had colelcted signatures from over 100 persons who expressed an interest in seeing a society started.

Elisabeth was a life-long resident in the area.  And as I said about George and Midge Rast, there must be something healthy about an intense interest in history, as Elisabeth lived to be 101 yrs, 11 months and 11 days.  She dipped her toes in 5hree centuries.  Elisabeth was born at Orange Home in Sumter County on January 30, 1898, and died January 11, 2000 at Leesburg.  She moved to Leesburg at school age and lived in Leesburg continuously except for one year in Dublin, Georgia.

Elisabeth attended the first public school founded in 1886, which was the second brick building in Leesburg, on what is now Thirteenth Street.  After she finished high school, she
attended business school, and had courses in Counseling and Family Guidance from the Extension Division of the University of Florida.

She worked for Mr. E. H. Mote, pioneer citizen and citrus grower for 13 years, later working for the City of Leesburg as Secretary to the City Manager and in the tax department for 13 years.  Then she worked at First Federal Savings and Loan.

But more especially, she kept our history alive, recording so much of our history in the Daily Commercial.

We applaud Mrs. Geiger and appreciate all that she did for the City of Leesburg.           ........GFAHS

Thomas Wesley Givens, 101, of Mount Dora died Sunday, May 30, 2004. Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Eustis.

Orlando Sentinel, The ( FL ) - June 1, 2004
Deceased Name: THOMAS GIVENS , 101, VOLUNTEERED AS LAKE FIREFIGHTER FOR 2 DECADES
Thomas W. Givens of Mount Dora, perhaps the oldest retired volunteer firefighter in Lake County, died Sunday after a life that spanned more than a century.

Givens, 101, was born in Houston County, Ala., and moved to Eustis in 1931.

He was a serviceman for the old Triangle Gas Co. in Eustis before it was taken over by another company. But much of his time was devoted to his church, Bay Street Baptist Church in Eustis, where he was a deacon for more than 40 years and earned the title "deacon emeritus." In fact, Givens helped erect the main part of the church facing Bay Street. "He helped build it in a literal sense," said his son, G. Paul Givens of Mount Dora.

Relatives said Thomas Givens always seemed to be doing something. That might explain why he served with the Eustis Volunteer Fire Department for more than two decades. "He had to be doing something most all the time," his son said. "He was the workaholic type." And he didn't slow down much, even at his advanced age. He enjoyed gardening until recently, and was especially proud of a "gigantic sweet potato" he grew, according to his daughter-in-law, Betty Givens. "Even two or three months ago, he was out on his riding mower, mowing the grass," she said.

Givens was preceded in death by his wife, Willie V. Givens, in 2001. He is also survived by a daughter, Martha Jo Overhiser of Mount Dora; two sisters, Ouida Herring of Cocoa and Nell Smith of Columbia, Ala.; three brothers, Vernice Givens of Eustis, Gaddis Givens of Kearney, Mo., and Elzie Givens of Eustis; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Harden/Pauli Funeral Home in Eustis is handling arrangements.
His wife: They married about 1929, Houston Co, Ala.  Some deeds have Willie S instead of V
Daily Commercial, The (Leesburg, FL ) - December 4, 2001
Deceased Name: Willie V. Givens
Willie V. Givens, 91, of Mount Dora died Monday (Dec. 3, 2001) in Eustis. Born in Enterprise, Ala., she moved to Mount Dora from Eustis in 2000. She was a retired citrus packer for Lake Region Packing in Tavares, where she worked for 32 years. She was a member of Bay Street Baptist Church, Eustis. Survivors include her husband, Thomas W. Givens of Mount Dora; son, the Rev. G. Paul Givens of Mount Dora; daughter, Martha Jo Overhiser of Mount Dora; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Harden/Pauli Funeral Home, Eustis.

Funeral services for Mrs. Willie V. Givens, 91, Mount Dora, and former Eustis resident for 69 years, will be held from the Bay Street Baptist Church of Eustis on Friday morning at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Martin Smith and the Rev. Mark Douglas officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. The family will receive friends at the Harden-Pauli Funeral Home of Eustis on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Also surviving Mrs. Givens is a niece, Iva Sewell of Jakin, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Givens recently celebrated 72 years of marriage. Arrangements by the Harden-Pauli Funeral Home of Eustis.

No explanation for the Hancock surnname, but I didn’t find her maiden name. First husband, Jahn Poldan, second, Frank Simicic . Doesn't look like she was married at the time of her death according to SSDI.
Frank died in 1985 and she could have remarried without changing her SSN. No clues where she lived in Lake County.
