DENNIS, Nicholas L.

Nicholas L. Dennis

II, page 343, 1923. DENNIS, Nicholas L is one of Saint Petersburg's most enterpirising citizens,
proprietor of a successful business, an active member of the Chamber of
Commerce, the Civitan Club and prominent in fraternal circles. He is a charter
member of the Knights Templars and a thirty second degree Scottish Rite Mason
and a charger member of Egypt Temple of the Mystic Shrine at Tampa. He also
belongs to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Elks and was organizer and
first monarch of Selama Grott, M.O.D.R. of Saint Petersburg.
He was born in Plantanos, Greece, September 15, 1883. His education was
acquired chiefly in the city of Constantinople, and his travels extended
throughtout Europe before he came to America in 1903. He has a fluent command
of the French, Greek and Italian as well as the English.
He learned catering by experience in Europe, in the Blackstone Hotel in
Chicago, also at Martins and Delmonicos of New York, the New Willard and
Shorham Hotels of Washington, and as a youth served his apprenticeship with
the Cook's hotel chain in Europe.
It was in 1914 that mr Dennis established his Saint Petersburg
business, the Park Cafeteria, with 1,400 feet of floor space. Now the
cafeteria covers 10,000 square feet of space, seats 400, and has a daily
feeding possibility of 4000. The equipment is modern and complete throughtout.
The conveyors and dishwashing machinery were installed at a cost of over $10.000.
The groceries and provisions storeroom will invoice, any day, upwars of $5,000.
The service is all that strong personailty and intelligent carefur management
can make of it. There are fifty modern hotel rooms in connection.
In the summertime Mr. DENNIS operates the Belvedere Hotel and Casino
at Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. There he caters to the best organizations of
Washington, among them the Bar Association, Elks, Traffic Cllub, the Washington
Baord of Tread and fraternal organizations. The Belvedere has housing
accomplicated for more than a hundred people, while the dining room seats a

Mr. DENNIS, married Miss Sophie Janes, of Washington, D. C. There four
children are HELEN, LEON, STELLA and NICHOLAS, Jr.
