CARLETON, GEORGE A. was born and reared in New England, but many years
ago became attracted to Florida, and the state has no more enthusiastic and
loyal citizen than this well known contractor and builder at Ormond in Volusia

Mr. CARLETON came to Florida in 1896, and for a time was located at
Tampa, then a small town. He afterward went to Palm Beach, and since 1900 has
been located at Ormond. He has erected a number of hotels, residences and
business structures along the Halifax River and on the beach.

Mr. CARLTON was born near Groton, Massachusetts, March 16, 1865, son of
AMOS P. and HARRIETT ANN (BUTTERFIELD) CARLETON. His father was a carpenter
by trade, and died in 1907. The mother, now eighty-seven years of age, lives
at North Andover, Massachusetts.

GEORGE A. CARLETON was educated in the Groton High School, and as a youth
learned the carpenter’s trade. Along with the practical work of building
contracting he has studied and acquired a broad knowledge of the architectural
profession, and he plans many of the houses he builds. Mr. CARLETON is
affiliated with the Knights of Pythias at Miami, and is president of the
Ormond Yacht Club. He has built a number of boats, and is a skillful pilot
and sailor as well.
